Derek is an independent Child Rights and AI Policy Consultant with over two decades of experience helping brands and platforms build safer, more supportive digital experiences for young people. His work spans responsible youth tech policy, AI ethics, trust and safety, and edtech/kidtech strategy, informed by senior roles at Disney, Facebook, Yahoo, and BeMe Health.
He is the author of The Gen Z Frequency (Kogan Page), translated into four languages, and co-author of peer-reviewed research in educational technology. He holds a Disney Inventor Award and a COPPA-related patent, and participates in the RITEC working group at the Joan Ganz Cooney Center at Sesame Workshop.
